The state has answered Council's call for work to be done on the Cooroy railway bridge and adjoining roads.

The commitment comes after Council took the community’s concerns about the condition of the state-controlled road to Transport Minister Bart Mellish.

“Councillors were hearing from members of the Cooroy community that they were dissatisfied with the state of the road and the repair work previously done by the state government,” Mayor Clare Stewart said.

“I wrote to the Minister on behalf of Council and our community requesting urgent action be taken. It seemingly has.

“It’s great to see a positive outcome for our residents following advocacy by Council.”

The Mayor said Council had not been advised of the timeframe for the work, but it was important to the local community that work should start soon.

In the letter to the Minister, the Mayor had called for urgent improvements to the Cooroy railway bridge, noting the community’s concerns, plus anticipated traffic impacts when the planned Lake Macdonald Dam upgrade begins.

The Mayor’s letter also sought a timeframe for a full replacement of the bridge.

Cr Stewart said Council continues to hold safety and functionality concerns for the Myall Street / Elm Street intersection and the Diamond Street / Elm Street intersection at Cooroy.

“I’d urge the Minister to look at the more significant infrastructure work that needs to be undertaken in that area of Cooroy.”
