Volunteers help build strong, healthy and inclusive communities by supporting community organisations, events and activities.
National Volunteer Week 21-27 May
To celebrate National Volunteer Week and the wonderful work our local volunteers do, Council teamed up with local film-maker Klaus Horner (who gave his time voluntarily!) to make short films about six local community groups and what they give to the community. These short films were showcased throughout National Volunteer Week (May 21-27). Watch the short videos about the trail fairies, where Cooroy came from, how you don’t have to be beautiful to be perfect, why orange is the new black, how much fun a young person can have, and what difference a truck and bunch of chairs can do.
Changing Face of Volunteering Forum
In May this year, Noosa Council hosted the 'Changing Face of Volunteering Forum', as part of National Volunteering Week. The forum focused on how volunteers are now looking for short-term opportunities to help out, rather than a long-term commitment to one cause or group. Watch presentations from the event, below.
- Contemporary Volunteering Trends – Michelle Lindley from Volunteering Queensland
- Transformation: moving from ‘having’ volunteers to ‘involving’ volunteers – Anastasia Magriplis from Uniting Care
- Capturing the imagination of a new generation: how and why volunteering needs to change with the times – Shari Engelbrecht from Orange Sky Laundry
Volunteer for Council
Council is always seeking volunteers to help deliver its services to the community. See some of the opportunities that may be of interest below:
To find volunteers for an event or to assist a local organisation by becoming a volunteer, please send an email and a Council officer will make contact to discuss.
State Emergency Service
Noosa Shire's local SES divisions at Cooroy, Tewantin, Pomona and Boreen Point welcome new volunteers. The SES provides excellent training, and volunteering for the SES is rewarding. For more information call Carol Watkins on 0408 078 073, or visit the SES website.
