More than $225,000 handed out in latest Council grant round

More than 30 community organisations will share in $225,000 handed out in Council’s latest Community Grants round.

The funding will support a wide range of projects, events, equipment and infrastructure. Among them, Noosa Arts Theatre’s project to cater for audiences with impaired hearing.

“The $3055 we’ve received from Council will enable us to install special equipment for patrons who are hard of hearing so they can enjoy our shows without missing out on the dialogue,” Noosa Arts Theatre spokesperson, Phillip Blakeney, said.

The $2239 Cooroora Football Club has received will fund lighting upgrades.

“With this funding we’ll be able to install external security lighting and upgrade our internal lighting to both boost the safety for our members and reduce our power consumption,” Club spokesperson, Donald MacLeod, said.

Other recipients include the Anywhere Festival, which has received $7500 to support the development of an estimated seven productions for the May 2021 event.

In the hinterland, Pomona Arts Inc has received $11,500 toward renovations at the Majestic Theatre, while Cooroora Netball Club has received $6780 to repair its courts.

Tewantin Cricket Club, meanwhile, has received $5000 toward an irrigation system for the Club’s playing field.

“These are just some of the many projects and events funded this round,” Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said.

“Almost 50 organisations applied for grant funding, requesting more than half a million dollars in total. Although we can’t fund every request in each funding round, any organisations that may have missed out this time can certainly apply again next round.

“In the meantime, our Community Development team is on hand to help community groups who may need advice about completing the application process. Community groups can also dial in to a number of regular online Q&A sessions to get advice.”

Community projects eligible for funding include, but are not limited to, events or festivals, programs, and building, maintenance or infrastructure projects.
