Bird Flu (Avian Influenza)

H5 bird flu has been confirmed in migratory sea bird species within Noosa Shire, Queensland and other Australian states. 

If you see sick or dead birds, do not touch or move them. Keep children and pets away and report suspected Bird Flu to:

1) Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888 

2) Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 5329 6500

Management Responsibilities

Australian Government: Coordinates the national response and biosecurity arrangements.

Queensland Government: Leads the animal health and biosecurity response, including investigation, testing and disease control.

Noosa Council: Manages risks on Council-managed land, supports the distribution of Queensland Government community information, and responds to sick and dead birds on Council managed land (under direction from the State). Council has prepared a Bird Flu Response Procedure in consultation with relevant stakeholders - to support coordinated responses.

Private landholders: Landholders are responsible for managing suspected cases of Bird Flu on their property - subject to directions from Biosecurity Queensland. 

Queensland Government advice to private landholders remains:

1) Avoid contact with sick or dead animals

2) Keep children and pets away

3) Report suspected bird flu to 1800 675 888 immediately for response directions
