Housing Strategy 2022

The lack of affordable rental housing is having social and economic impacts on Noosa Shire. Long term residents including young adults, families and aged pensioners are leaving their communities in search of housing; Families and friends are becoming separated; Organisations and businesses are losing staff and voluntary organisations and struggling to fill positions; The level of services across all sectors suffers with the shortage of reliable workers. Ultimately this can affect the lifestyle all residents enjoy and liveability of Noosa Shire.

In November 2022, Noosa Council endorsed the Noosa_Housing_Strategy_2022.pdf(PDF, 2MB), with key actions to reduce inequity, promote inclusiveness, and provide safe, affordable housing for residents. The Housing Strategy was informed by a Housing Needs Assessment(PDF, 4MB), endorsed by council in December 2021. This Assessment is a comprehensive technical report on the context of housing needs in Noosa Shire.

Underpinning the success of the Housing Strategy will be ongoing open conversations and partnerships with the State and Federal Government, with community housing providers, private housing developers and with the Noosa community, to advance the actions within the Strategy.

The strategy calls for regular monitoring and review to ensure actions and interventions advance us towards meeting its objectives-to provide housing choice, diversity and affordability to meet the current and future needs of the community.
