Noosa Main Beach Sand Recycling System
Sand management plays a vital role in combating coastal erosion and providing a buffer for surrounding areas during storms.
Sand pumping has a long history in Noosa, with pumping used to create the Noosa Spit and to cover the seawall after construction.
There are sand recycling systems at beaches across South East Queensland and Australia.
Noosa Council started trials of sand recycling operations on Main Beach in 2003, with a permanent facility installed in 2011.
Noosa Council's sand recycling system is a critical piece of infrastructure supporting the resilience of Noosa Main Beach, the Woods, Noosa Spit and the Noosa Sound.
