Beckmans Road Upgrade

Tewantin Bypass, Beckmans Road, planning

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is planning a long-term, staged solution to improve safety and traffic flow along the Beckmans Road corridor between Cooroy-Noosa Road and Eumundi-Noosa Road in Tewantin.

Planning is underway to investigate options for future stages of the upgrade. The aim is to reduce congestion, improve safety, increase capacity and make travel more efficient and reliable for the local community and all road users.

The first stage of the Beckmans Road upgrade was completed in December 2022, with a new two-lane roundabout constructed at the Cooroy-Noosa Road and Beckmans Road intersection.

The Beckmans Road corridor is an important connection for people travelling between Tewantin, Noosaville and Cooroy. Future stages of the upgrade will consider ways to improve the corridor for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, while responding to future traffic demands.

Environmental assessment

Noosa Council is working with TMR as part of the environmental assessment process for the proposed Beckmans Road Upgrade Project.

The project has been referred to the Australian Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and is currently listed as EPBC 2026/10530 – Assessment Commenced.

The referral covers proposed upgrades along Beckmans Road between Sea Eagle Drive and Eumundi-Noosa Road, including the section to the Rene Street intersection, as part of the environmental assessment process.

The EPBC assessment is part of the broader planning process, with project planning and design continuing as investigations progress. The referral does not represent a final decision to proceed with construction.

The EPBC referral and supporting information are available on the Australian Government's EPBC Public Portal.
