About Right to Information and Privacy

What is Right to Information?

The Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) was introduced by the Queensland Government to give the community greater access to information.

The RTI Act gives individuals the right to access information, including their personal information, held by public sector agencies, including Council, unless contrary to the public interest.

Aims

Right to Information aims to:

  • make more information available,
  • provide equal access to information across the community, and
  • protect an individual’s personal information.

The RTI Act gives you the right to access information held by Council unless there is a good reason for it not to be provided. You also have a right to access and amend your personal information that is held by Council.

Privacy

The Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) governs how government manages personal information.

Council will take all reasonable and appropriate steps to protect the privacy of individuals as required by the IP Act and the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs), contained in that Act.

For further information, please refer to Council’s Privacy Policy(PDF, 364KB).
