Disaster Resilience

Students take part in the Get Ready schools program

Noosa Council is dedicated to building a safer, more resilient community. Council works proactively to reduce disaster risks through planning, infrastructure delivery and renewal, education, and partnerships with local emergency services and government agencies.

Current disaster resilience projects include the Main Beach Seawall Design project. This project will develop plans for a future renewal of the Main Beach seawall.

In 2024 Council’s Get Ready for Storm and Bushfire Season program – delivered in partnership with local emergency services – reached more than 2500 students and 2000 aged care and retirement village residents, each of whom received a Noosa emergency information pack.

Each pack includes the Noosa Emergency Action Guide and other useful materials with a QR code to connect residents to Noosa’s Disaster Dashboard. The Dashboard is residents’ point of truth in times of emergency, featuring up-to-date road condition information, details on power outages, weather warnings, flood cameras, the BoM weather radar, river heights and evacuation zones.

The Get Ready for Storm and Bushfire Season program is designed to build the community’s disaster resilience, by helping residents get ready for severe weather through understanding the local risks, preparing an emergency plan and packing an emergency kit.

To obtain an emergency information pack, visit the customer service desk on Level 2 at Noosa Council’s Tewantin offices, located at 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin.
