Closed circuit television (CCTV) Privacy Collection Statement

This privacy collection statement sets out how Noosa Council uses surveillance cameras throughout the Noosa region.

Noosa Council operates 24 hour CCTV surveillance of various Council facilities, including:

  1. the Noosa Leisure Centre
  2. Tewantin Administration Building
  3. Noosaville Depot
  4. Noosa Libraries
  5. Noosa waste facilities
  6. Noosa Aquatic Centre
  7. the Noosa Community Centre
  8. Cooroy Butter Factory
  9. the Hastings Street precinct
  10. the Noosa Botanic Gardens
  11. the Noosa Sports Centre, and
  12. the Noosa ferry terminal.

Various Noosa Council service providers and officers also utilise body-worn and car-mounted surveillance cameras, including Council’s local laws officers.

Noosa Council also utilises mobile cameras, temporarily placed in bushland fringe areas for the purpose of managing and enforcing illegal dumping.

All people and vehicles who enter or are present at Council facilities, or who engage with Council service providers, will be video recorded for safety and security purposes. Council officers who wear body-worn cameras may also audio record conversations in which they are participating.

What purpose does Noosa Council use surveillance cameras for?

Council uses surveillance cameras for a number of safety and security purposes. Where necessary, the recorded footage will be used to assist with law enforcement operations, investigate complaints, prevent criminal activity, and ensure the safety of Council officers and the security of Council facilities.

Does Noosa Council share the footage with anyone?

Where necessary to prevent serious harm to public welfare or safety, or to assist with criminal investigation or crime prevention activities, Noosa Council may disclose footage captured by surveillance cameras to the Queensland Police Service and other law enforcement agencies. Where footage contains personal information about an individual (as that term is defined in the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD)), legal authority for such use and disclosure of the footage is contained in the Information Privacy Principles, contained in Schedule 3 to the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD).

How does Noosa Council protect my personal information?

Noosa Council has ensured that all reasonable steps have been taken to protect your personal information, including implementing appropriate security controls to protect the storage of surveillance footage, and to prevent unauthorised access, use, disclosure, or interference with the footage.
