Six short films to celebrate Noosa's volunteers

Six short films will tell the stories of local community groups and their hard-working volunteers to celebrate National Volunteer Week.

Council has teamed up with local filmmaker Klaus Horner, who gave his time voluntarily to make the short films about local community groups.

Council will release a film a day on its Facebook page during National Volunteer Week (May 21 to 27) to celebrate local groups’ contributions.

The films reveal the work of the trail fairies and the volunteers who document and preserve our region’s history. Plus, see how a truck and chairs can make a world of difference to those less fortunate.

Council’s Community Development Manager Alison Hamblin says the films show what a gift volunteering is.

“The community groups’ commitment to the filmmaking process, in terms of their time and faith in the idea, has paid off as the videos do a tremendous job of celebrating our volunteers.”

Ms Hamblin said producing the films was a great example of episodic volunteering – an increasingly popular style of volunteering where someone, in this case filmmaker Klaus, gives their skills for a short period.

“It’s the way that more and more people who can’t make long-term commitments are helping to make a difference. Like the National Volunteer Week motto says - Give a little. Change a lot.

“Klaus has made some beautiful short films and the community groups are thrilled with how they’ve turned out,” Ms Hamblin said.

Council would like to thank Klaus Horner for producing the short films, plus the community groups and their volunteers who took part.

See Council’s Facebook page daily from May 21-27 to view the films.
