This web page provides you with information relating to the NOOSA TRAIL NETWORK established in Noosa Shire. Noosa Shire is located approximately 120 kilometres north of Brisbane on the South East Queensland Coast.

The Noosa Trail Network enables residents and visitors to enjoy our spectacular hinterland countryside. Trails are well signposted, with picnic shelters, water tanks, interpretative signs and scenic lookouts. Of various lengths, they can be completed in sections or combination; some require a high level of fitness.

The trails cater for walkers, horse riders and mountain bike riders and cross a variety of terrain. Trail bike riders, 4WDs and dogs are not permitted. The ground has been minimally modified, so encounters with fallen debris, holes, rocks, mud and grass may be expected and could pose problems, especially for mountain bike riders.

How the Trails were Developed

Noosa Council was responsible for instigating and co-ordinating the development of the Noosa Trail Network. Both Noosa Council and the Queensland Department of State Development provided funds to purchase materials needed to establish infrastructure along the trails such as bridges, gates, signage, picnic shelters etc . The existing trails were constructed over four different Community Job Programs funded by the Department of Employment and Training between the years 2001 to 2003. The existing trails are maintained by Noosa Council and are continuously being upgraded. Currently trail 3 between Arthys Road and Tablelands Road is being realigned.

Noosa Council has plans to establish more trails and are currently negotiating with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to establish trails linking Cooran and Pomona, Pomona and Cooroy, Cooroy and Lake Macdonald. In early April 2007 Council was notified that its funding application to the Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation to establish the link between Cooran and Pomona had been successful.
