Active Mums Active Mums

Active Mums Noosa is an initiative of Noosa Council. The program’s primary aim is to get more mums involved in regular physical activity and increase the number of opportunities in the local community to do this. Read more about this initiative.

Council has secured additional funding for a second round of free activities for Active Mums Noosa.

There are a total of 16 free and affordable ($10 per class) activity sessions each week.

Round Two of free Active Mums sessions will start the week of 6 June. Activities will run for 10 weeks.

$10 sessions are already running and are being provided by council and local businesses.

Mums with children 0 - 5 years old are eligible to participate in this program.

Participants MUST register prior to attending any activities. 

Exercise and sport during pregnancy and after child birth

It is vital to begin or return to sport safely after child birth. Participating in activities that are appropriate for a mum's body condition is important. Below are some resources and information sheets that provide useful information about safe exercise during pregnancy and after child birth. Mums are encouraged to consult with their Doctor or Women’s Health Physiotherapist regarding any concerns about their ability to participate in any Active Mums activity.

The first step is to register as an Active Mums Noosa participant before booking into any activity (or waiting list). Register details here.

If creche time is required, please book with the venue directly. 

Before booking into activities please note:

Where crèche is provided at the Noosa Leisure and Aquatic Centres (Aqua Areobics, Fitmums, Moving Mums, Core Conditioning for Mums, Restorative Yoga for Mums) Mums must phone the centre to book crèche each week require. Crèche is free for all classes, except for Aqua Aerobics ($4 per child).
Mums cannot book into more than 3 activities per week – please only book into what can be realistically attended.
There are maximum numbers for classes, a waiting list will be available once sessions book out.
An additional indemnity/health form will be emailed to participants once they are booked into a class. Participants will receive this email within a week of making the booking and they will need to complete and return before classes commence.

BONUS ACTIVE MUMS SESSION

Free Active Mums Relaxation and Stress Management for all Active Mums registered mums.

Take an hour to relax and unwind. Edwina from Fitmums will guide Mums through a session of breathing, relaxation and sound immersion. Learn techniques to help de-stressing from the 24/7 demands of motherhood.

Aqua Aerobics

Mums only aqua aerobics class. Applying the water’s resistance and using different equipment for a great, but low impact workout. Great for both pregnant women and new mums.

Moving Mums

Grant from Hinterland PT will guide you through a higher intensity cardio workout especially for mums including elements of boxing and core strengthening. Grant has over 12 years experience as a personal trainer and has specific qualifications in pregnancy and postnatal exercise.

Core Conditioning

Grant from Hinterland PT will get that strength back into Mums core and abs. A class involving gentle movements and stretching to improve core strength and improve mobility. Grant has over 12 years experience as a personal trainer and has specific qualifications in pregnancy and postnatal exercise.

Pilates

Nicki will provide 60mins of movement and stretching to build and strengthen core muscles. Great for all mums.

Group Fitness - Tewantin

Lisa from Morganics Seasonal Fitness will guide Mums through a variety of circuit, cardio and strength building workouts specifically for mums. Work on increasing general fitness and pushing a little more each week. No boot camp, just appropriate exercises for mums.

Restorative Yoga for Mums

Each week Noosa Yoga teacher Fiona will guide Mums through a restorative yoga class. A favourite class of Round 1 Active Mums.

Mums and Bubs Yoga – Tewantin

Amber will lead Mums through sessions designed to help rebalance the body after pregnancy, regain strength and flexibility and to deepen the existing bond between Mum and baby in a relaxing environment. Each class will cover postures for both Mums and babies. Recommended for mums with bubs who are not walking yet.

Stand Up Paddling for Mums

Learn how to Stand Up Paddle with Erica and Tracey from Kayak Noosa. Great for balance and a core workout. Designed for the beginner paddler, no experience is necessary. All equipment will be provided, but mum's must wear swimwear and bring a towel. Change facilities are available on site. Round 1 Mums with children over 18 months included their child on board (kids life jackets provided). Please note mums are paired with each other to watch over each other’s children while taking turns in water (see further explanation below).

Fitmums – an introduction to fitness and exercise for mums

This class is 2 sessions per week. Mumsmust be prepared to attend both days of this activity each week.

This class is ideal for mums needing a gradual and supported progression into exercise. Individual assessments will be conducted prior to the class to ensure sessions are specifically designed for individual needs. This class is structured to assess where participants are right now and progress them on based on changing levels of strength and fitness. Beginning with core strength and stability work to create a strong foundation, then progressing into more strength and fitness work. This program will include a variety of elements and techniques to reduce the chance of injury by starting exercise too quickly. Edwina has provided women’s and postnatal exercise programs for over 20 years and is acknowledged nationally as a postnatal and women’s exercise expert.

Childcare options explained

Creche: An on-site crèche is offered for morning activities at the Noosa Leisure Centre and Noosa Aquatic Centre, but places must be reserved when registering for activities.

Minimum age for crèche is 8 weeks, however babies are welcome to all classes except aqua aerobics.

Play pen: For group fitness sessions, a large playpen will be set up in the same room as the class and workouts will be around the play pen. Mums are encouraged to bring toys for their children. Mums are also welcome to bring  prams or strollers for sleepy children.

Peer Child Minding: This option will be used for stand up paddle (SUP) boarding only. A playpen will be set up in a shaded area in the immediate area of the SUP activity. Mums will be 'buddied up" to mind each others children, taking it in turns to paddle. While mums will not be venturing too far from children's sight, it is recommended that they register with a friend so that they are sharing the child minding with someone familiar. A “meet and greet” will be held on the first session to ensure Mums are comfortable with the child minding arrangements.

Fit Mummas Walking Group

Join Karen and her group of postnatal mums with their babies for a walk along the Noosa River on Gympie Terrace, some stretching and toning exercises under the trees by the river, followed by morning tea. Join at any stage of the morning to get out of the house, breathe some fresh air, stretch and share the mothering journey with other mums. Wear comfortable walking shoes and don’t forget a water bottle.
